About Extra Extra
See today's news from every angle.
Our Mission
Extra Extra exists to help you stay balanced and well-informed. In a media landscape where algorithms curate your feed and filter bubbles reinforce what you already believe, we take a different approach: we show you the same story from multiple political perspectives, side by side.
We believe that understanding how different outlets frame the same event is one of the most powerful tools for critical thinking. Our goal is not to tell you what to think, but to give you the full picture so you can decide for yourself.
How It Works
Extra Extra aggregates articles from 54+ news sources across the political spectrum. Each source is categorized by its political leaning — left, center, or right — based on widely recognized bias ratings.
Our story clustering algorithm groups articles covering the same event together using keyword-overlap matching. This lets you instantly see how a single story is reported differently depending on the outlet's perspective.
We also surface "blind spots" — stories covered heavily by one side of the political spectrum but ignored by the other. These gaps in coverage are often just as revealing as the coverage itself.
Data Sources
Our bias categorizations are not based on our own opinions. We rely on established, peer-reviewed, and widely cited media bias rating organizations:
- AllSides — Uses blind bias surveys, editorial reviews, and community feedback to rate media bias on a left-to-right scale.
- Ad Fontes Media — Analysts across the political spectrum rate individual articles for reliability and bias, producing the well-known Media Bias Chart.
- Media Bias/Fact Check — An independent fact-checking and media bias resource that evaluates sources for factual reporting and political bias.
When these sources disagree on a rating, we use the consensus or the most moderate assessment.
Technology
Extra Extra is powered by RSS feeds — the open web standard for publishing. We fetch articles directly from each source's RSS feed, which means:
- The site rebuilds every 3 hours, with live API refresh in between for the latest articles.
- No paywalls. We link directly to original articles — we never host or reproduce content.
- No tracking. We don't track you, sell your data, or use invasive analytics. We don't serve ads.
- Promotional and affiliate content from RSS feeds is automatically filtered out.
The Team
Built independently by a small team passionate about media literacy. Extra Extra is free, independent, and not affiliated with any political party, news organization, or advocacy group.
